Obituary

A golden heart has stopped beating, Alfred Driffill, III, loving husband, father, Papa, brother, uncle, cousin and friend died Sunday, October 14, 2018 at his farm near Floresville at the age of 65.

He was born September 15, 1953 to Dorothy and Alfred Driffill, Jr. in San Antonio.  His childhood memories were of his large family of cousins, aunts and uncles.  Those memories continued to adulthood, times that he remembered fondly all his life.

He graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1971, and soon after began a 40 year career with the San Antonio Express-News.  He was a sports fan and an avid reader.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Dorothy; his in-laws: Arthur and Irene Veit and brother-in-law, Arthur Veit, Jr.

He is survived by his wife, Melanie; sons, Gregory (Amanda) and Stephen (Jeanette) and grandchildren: Ethan, Drew, Aubree, Landree, and Reese.  His sons were the light of his life.  His time was gladly spent supporting their activities and their careers.  His grandchildren were the absolute light of his life.  He tried to be at all their activities.  They knew their Papa was in the stands, or the audience, whatever the event.

He is also survived by sister, Elisa (Patrick) Galloway, brothers: Charlie (Dea), Louis, and Patrick (Linda); sister-in-law, Vonnie (Jeff) Jackson, and brothers-in-law: Mark (Sammie) Veit and Matt Veit in addition his cherished nieces and nephews and now their children.
