Obituary

Shortly before sunrise on May 26, 2024 while at home with his family, the hand of God reached out to Fred G. Barrera, Jr. welcoming him into his kingdom.

Fred is survived by his loving wife of 45 years Irma Barrera, his daughter, Bianca, son in law Gabriel, son Freddie III and daughter in law Delisa, granddaughters Annalise and Adriana Barrera, who were the light of his life knew him as "Papa."   Also by his sisters, Yolanda Garcia and Belinda McDaniel and brother Ralph Barrera and wife Gretchen. Fred was preceded in death by parents, Fred Sr. and Lupe Barrera and brother, Michael Barrera.

Fred worked in the beer business for almost 50 years starting as a driver for Apache distributing while in college, to Glazers Beer & Beverage, where he retired in 2020. Known as a dedicated "beer man," he truly enjoyed the line of work and friends he made along the journey. His passion grew when supporting well known events of Fiesta,  Stock Show & Rodeo, crew efforts and numerous special occasions — He loved it all as he couldn't walk through a retailer without checking his beer aisle.

An avid outdoorsman, Fred's first love was golf. Learning from his father, many memories were shared along with his brothers on Sunday at Pecan Valley Golf course. Fred also enjoyed fishing and hunting. He said anytime spent near the water was all he ever needed.

A true gentleman, Fred always shared a hug or a handshake taking the opportunity to ask you how you were doing. Even though a failing heart took him away from us, we carry a piece of his heart in our hearts. We miss him dearly and know he is resting, smiling down upon us, and getting ready to tee off with his dad and his brother Michael.

Thank you to Fred's family and friends who took time out of their busy lives to visit him and make him laugh. To the ICU and 4th floor nurses at Methodist Hospital for their kindness and dedication. Especially Bridget who always made Fred smile. To the Congestive Heart Failure team of doctors thank you for your compassion. To Guiding Light Hospice team. Through your guidance and care Fred was able to come home and be with us. Special thanks to Mabel for your kind heart and words of encouragement.
