Obituary

In the most peaceful way, Al Esparza ascended into heaven on Friday, March 29, 2019. The youngest and last survivor of the 12 children born to Calistro Esparza and Maria Cruz Monreal in Aguascalientes, Mexico, grew up among many dear uncles, aunts and cousins in Zaragoza, Coahuila.  At the age of 15, he immigrated to the United States, met and married his wife, Janie Quiroz Esparza, in San Antonio, Texas.   They were married at this very church, St. Agnes, and were together almost 65 years.  Al and Janie welcomed three children into their lives—Phillip, Laura and Alfonso, Jr.

Al is survived by a loving family—his wife Janie, son Phillip and daughter-in-law Conchis Silva Esparza, daughter Laura and son-in-law Fred Campos, and son Alfonso.

The legacy he leaves on earth includes grandsons Miguel Esparza (Valerie Alvarez), Gabriel Esparza and great-grandson Thiago Esparza.  Other survivors who brought great joy to his life are daughters Janie Esparza Larriva, Mary Esther Durán, and special nieces and nephews.

After a long career as an auto mechanic, he retired but kept working on a daily basis. On any given day, one could arrive at the Esparza residence to the sounds of his beloved Mexican songs or to see him visiting with his friends. There is no doubt that he gave and got the most from all his days on earth.

All that loved him, all that he befriended, will feel his special touch forever…
